The Omega-3 We Personally Use and Recommend
If you have been dealing with recurring headaches or migraines, you already know that most advice stops at "take a painkiller and rest." That's treating the symptom, not the cause.
We are two sisters, both working in healthcare, and we built Head2HealSisters because we believe people deserve real answers about what is driving their headaches. Omega-3 is one of the most evidence-backed, most overlooked pieces of that puzzle.
On this page, we share the specific supplement we personally use and recommend, why we chose it over everything else on the market, and how you can get started.
Transparency note: We are referral partners for Eqology. This means we receive a small commission when someone orders through us, at no extra cost to you. We only recommend this product because we use it ourselves and believe in it, our recommendation came before our partnership, not the other way around.

Before we get into the product, here is the bigger picture.
The following complaints are all linked to chronic low-grade inflammation and a disrupted omega-3 to omega-6 balance:
Recurring headaches or migraines
Fatigue and low energy
Difficulty concentrating or brain fog
Stiff or painful jaw (TMD)
Joint stiffness or muscle tension
Mood swings or feeling low
Skin that is dull, dry, or prone to breakouts
Poor sleep quality
If several of these sound familiar, there is a real chance your omega-3 to omega-6 ratio is out of balance. In Europe, the average ratio is around 15:1 in favour of omega-6. In the United States, it is often as high as 25:1.
The research-supported ideal is closer to 3:1 or lower.
Most people have never tested theirs.

So we were already taking omega-3. Both of us. Algae-based capsules, because we wanted a clean, sustainable option. We thought we had it covered.
Then we tested our blood.
Our omega-3 values were far too low. Despite taking capsules consistently, neither of us had reached a healthy omega-3 index. The capsules simply were not doing what we expected.
Looking into it afterwards, this is not unusual: algae oil can be a valid source of omega-3, but absorption varies significantly between individuals, and most capsules are underdosed on top of that. Without testing, you have no way of knowing whether any supplement is actually working in your body.
We switched to Eqology Pure Arctic Oil, a liquid full-spectrum fish oil.
Within a few months, Joline noticed her skin becoming noticeably clearer and more even, the near-constant nasal congestion she had struggled with faded, and her energy felt more stable across the day — no more afternoon crashes. These were not things she had connected to omega-3 before, but they shifted as her levels improved significantly.
Nadiya's experience added another layer. When she became pregnant, her blood tests showed a significant drop in her omega-3 values — even more than before. This is well documented: the developing baby draws heavily on the mother's DHA supply, which can deplete maternal levels quickly. During pregnancy, getting enough high-quality omega-3 is not just beneficial, it is essential — both for the baby's brain development and for the mother's own wellbeing. It reinforced for us how easy it is to be deficient without realising, even when you think you are doing the right things.
The lesson from both experiences is the same: it is not enough to take omega-3. You need the right form, the right dose, and a way to verify that your body is actually absorbing it.
Here is what made the difference for us:
It is a liquid, full-spectrum oil. It contains EPA, DHA, and DPA in their natural proportions, the way they occur in fish, not stripped-down isolated concentrates. Full spectrum means better absorption and a more complete effect in the body.
The dose is sufficient. One daily serving delivers a therapeutic dose of omega-3, in line with the amounts used in clinical trials that showed meaningful results for headaches.
The oxidation value is exceptionally low. The TOTOX value (the standard measure of oil freshness) is below 4, compared to the industry maximum of 26. This matters because oxidised oil is not just less effective; it can actively produce harmful compounds. There is a reason this oil has no fishy aftertaste.
It is blended with cold-pressed extra-virgin olive oil. This prevents oxidation after opening and adds polyphenols (natural antioxidants) and oleic acid, which supports cardiovascular health. A capsule shell cannot do any of this.
It is sustainably sourced. MSC-certified, from wild-caught cod from cold Norwegian waters.
And most importantly: you can measure the results. This is the detail that convinced us completely — and we explain exactly how it works in the next section.

Our big Omega-3 winner: Pure Arctic Oil from Eqology

"Without measuring your omega-3 index before and after, you are essentially guessing."
When you start an Eqology subscription, you receive a certified blood test.
You prick your finger at home, add a few drops of blood to the test card, and post it to an independent certified laboratory. About 20 working days later, your personal omega-3 index is available at omegaratiotest.com/en.
After five months of consistent use, a second test arrives automatically. You compare the two results and see, in objective numbers, what has changed in your body.
No other supplement brand we found does this. It turns a supplement into a personal health experiment with real data. For us, as healthcare professionals, this was non-negotiable.
Omega-3 is not a quick fix. Red blood cells renew approximately every 120 days, which is why it takes around four to five months for your omega-3 level to stabilise at a new baseline. The research that showed clear headache benefits all ran for at least 12 weeks. Consistency is what makes the difference.
Most people notice gradual improvements in energy, concentration, and sleep before they notice changes in headache frequency. Skin clarity is often one of the first visible signs.
